"Actually, from what I've heard, digimon usually live with their tamers," Ami said. "I mean you don't have to, Calcifer."
"Do you have food at your place?" The Patamon asked.
"Yeah."
"Then I'm cool with it."

“The point remains that at least you don’t plan to stop coming to the digital world now.” Meramon went on, “There’s much that the digital world has to offer, even I haven’t seen it all, and it would be a shame if your stay was marked as ended with the finding of your partner; however that works in the first place. I still don’t understand the meaning of these partnerships, first that Impmon’s and now this.” The fire-type rubbed at his chin as he considered something else, “The human world must be impressive, though, right? Looks like one of the perks to these partnerships is the chance to see it. If one human is a peculiarity, an entire world of them must be something else entirely."

"I guess it might be interested from a digimon's point of view," Ami said. "Though I'm used to it, so I don't make much of it."

“Really,” Meramon queried, intrigued by the young woman’s response, “I’ve lived my entire life in the digital world and I’ve yet to grow tired of what it has to offer. Still, seeing a new world would certainly be a memorable experience and these digimon who partner with humans have the fortune to live there as they would in the digital world.”

"Maybe you might get to see the human world someday," Ami said. "Though of course, you'd have to be really careful. Perhaps you might have a tamer one day."

“The human world would be something, though I suppose your kind don’t take to seeing us as easily as we take to you?” Meramon queried, “As for a tamer, I don’t think that’s part of my future plans.” He let out a chuckle at the aspect of having a human partner, “That might be okay for some digimon, but I’d prefer not being tied down. I’ve gotten this far on my own strength and the only help I’ve ever needed was that of my master. This tamer-digimon union that some of you from the other world seem to have seems to have its perks, but it just doesn’t seem me.”
As he voiced his opinion, the fire-type also considered what the human world might be like. It would be exciting to see a whole new world, but from the look of the few humans he’d met so far in his travels the place didn’t seem to fit the needs of a warrior digimon like himself. He needed action, excitement, combat, the chance to grow stronger, and while Ami seemed to equivalent to a human warrior her people as a whole just didn’t seem to be made out for combat, at least not from a digimon’s point of view. There would be sights to see, perhaps some greater than even the digital world had to offer, and he’d certainly want to see it some day, but it didn’t seem like a place that he could live at for long intervals of time.

"True. Many people might freak out if they saw you. Or call the fire department," Ami said with a small chuckle. "But I've heard that other tamers live not too far from where I do."

“When you live with flames engulfing your body you learn to control them or get run out of towns for being a nuisance.” the fire-type answered with something akin to prideful indignation, “I wouldn’t have to be followed around for cleaning up any accidental fires.” At the end of this, he let go a short string of spark-inducing laughter to show he wasn’t truly offended by the suggestion.
“More tamers, though, eh? I wonder how many are out there with digimon partners right now.” Meramon considered with blue-white eyes nearly burning a hole in the air with their distant stare, “There seem to be no underlying purposes for these partnerships. I’ve only met a couple of humans, including you.” He gave a nod Ami’s way to indicate he was speaking about her, “Still, I’ve heard about others, you hear a lot of things while traveling as many places as I have. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for these bonds that keep springing up between human and digimon.”

"Yeah but try telling people that," Ami said. "Humans are easily frightened, at least for the most part. And as for the partnerships thing, I don't know. But I would like to find out more about it."

“Easily frightened?” Meramon queried, “But you’re human and you’re a warrior from your world. From the appearances of your kind that I’ve seen and heard of so far I thought that you might be an exception when it comes to being trained in the art of fighting, but your virtues are also not universal?” The flame-type pondered this, “I suppose that it would make sense that only the bravest of your kind would be willing to make a journey of such magnitude as that to another world. That would explain why I have not heard of cowardliness as a human trait.”

"Yeah, people are all different in a lot of ways. But as a society, people have always tended to fear what they didn't understand," Ami said.

“Were you different than most of your kind, then?” Meramon inquired, “Were you not afraid when you first came to the digital world? Or have you just gotten used enough to digimon that you didn’t freak out over encountering me and your Patamon partner?”
He wondered if being blind either helped or hindered her bravery in coming to this strange land the first time. On one hand she wouldn’t actually see the various digimon that might prove terrifying to the sight-capable of her kind, but on the other side of the coin she would have been blind in a strange new world. Still, she certainly seemed the warrior type and she had trained to overcome her blindness with an ancestor, so she was probably fine when she first arrived, however she took things at the time.

"Maybe a little. But I was mostly excited. I like adventure," Ami said. "There were a couple of times I encountered hostile digimon, but I either fought them off, or reasoned with them."

“Yes,” Meramon replied with a sparking chuckle, “the digital world can be an exciting place and there is plenty of hostility to be found without looking too hard.”
His burning gaze turned around to look at the, mostly up till then, silent Calcifer, “And how about you?” he asked humorously with a chuckle, “Your tamer is a trained warrior from the human world who can turn into a digimon. Are you worried about keeping up and not slowing her down on her journey?”
