"OK then," the girl said, taking out her digivice. "Bioevolution activate!" She yelled, becoming engulfed in a swirling egg of data and light. Once it was gone, a small black puppy stood in her place. Her eyes were still clouded and unfocused, as she was also blind in digimon form.

Meramon watched with interest as the metamorphosis between human and digimon ran its course and the BlackSalamon appeared before his burning blue-white eyes. It was definitely a unique sight, since he had never heard of such a thing before. He wasn’t sure if he should be amazed at what she had just done or slightly disgusted with whoever would invoke such experiments to create this unity. He wondered if it was a painful process and how long it had been since she had inherited this ability of hers as he studied the black-furred dog in front of him.
“It seems your blindness carries over to this bioevolution of yours,” he mused vocally as he seemed to consider something, “but how do you use your sword with no hands, human warrior?” The question was in a tone of curiosity.

"I don't. I use my attacks instead," Ami said.

“It’s a shame that you must trade away one part that makes you a warrior for another,” Meramon observed, wondering if she would take up the sword again once she reached the next stage or two of BlackSalamon’s evolutionary track, when she would become bipedal once again. The fire-type couldn’t imagine gaining power while having to give up his flames in the process. A warrior became attached to that which he or she used in combat.
“So, we have been doing all of this talking and neither has shared their name with the other.” Meramon announced, realization only now coming on. He truly wasn’t excelled in the art of conversation, he thought, or he would have become aware of this fact sooner, “I am Meramon, a champion level fire-type digimon.”

"Not a big deal. I pack a pretty good punch, and I'm fast. Plus as a dog, my senses are even more keen. And they're already very strong and sensitive to begin with," Ami said. "Anyway, I'm Ami. Ami Sakami."

“I don’t doubt it,” Meramon replied with amusement, “gaining the powers of a digimon when you’re already a human warrior could only benefit you, I’m sure.”
The Meramon puzzled over the name he received from his new acquaintance. It sounded strange to his flame-engulfed ears to hear a name not ending in the –mon suffix. Humans were indeed interesting creatures. Wondering lightly on what his chances were of running into another human in his lifetime, the fire-type smiled politely at Ami’s introduction, even if she couldn’t see his actions with her cloudy, unfocused gaze.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Ami Sakami. I don’t usually run into others along my traveling of the scenic routes of the digital world.” The fire-type digimon’s words were marked as genuine by his tone. He often thought while he journeyed alone that encountering new people was a time-wasting hassle that interfered with his training, but he always felt better about the experience after taking part in it.
“This discussion has been refreshing, but I do believe that we’re both taking time from the other’s training schedule. Since we’ve happened to run into each other like this, perhaps we can train together in passing if you’d like. What is your normal routine?”

"Really? Doesn't it get lonely?" Ami asked.

“Lonely?” Meramon considered Ami’s words with interest, never having been asked such a thing before and not exactly sure how to respond. “I’m a digimon warrior; I keep company in my training and the fights I come across. That is all I need to survive and grow stronger in this world.” He paused for a moment, before continuing. “However, this conversation has been pleasant. I suppose that traveling companions would have their advantages at times.”

"Yeah. Sometimes I like to be alone, to think or relax. But I like being around others, having someone to talk to. I don't like to be alone for too long, or else it gets kind of boring for me," Ami said, before she heard a rustling from above.

“Company is nice, now and then, but I’m on a journey with an end that even I don’t recognize. My master sent me on a mission to find something and he would not say what. It has been a long and tiresome journey and I cannot see it as one appropriate to take along companions.” Meramon’s voice was distant, as if he were talking more to himself now than his acquaintance, “I don’t know how to take on this task assigned to me, except on my own.”
He came out of his thoughts the moment he heard the rustling. A burning hand at his side twitched, prepared to rise in anticipation for a threat. He didn’t know much of what he could do, though, without starting a forest fire that would burn down the local woodland region. He would be limited to close-combat scorching unless he was willing to take down the forest with the threat. However, he was getting ahead of himself, not positive that there was a threat to begin with. For the moment, he just kept his burning blue-white gaze trained on the direction where the rustling had come from.

"Why would someone send you after something and not tell you what it was? Doesn't make much sense to me," a voice said from above. Suddenly a white Patamon with blue eyes flew down, looking at the two. "Hiya!" He said in a cheery sort of tone.
Ami was surprised. "Who are you?" She asked.
"Calcifer," the Patamon said. "I was just taking a nap when you came by, so I watched you, then fell asleep again, then the Meramon came and you began talking and I listened. I was bored. Sorry."

Meramon’s internal coil loosened immediately when he saw the cause of the rustling to be nothing more than a Patamon. There were a lot of wild digimon wandering the digital world, as much in forests as anywhere else. It could have been a threat and while he considered himself capable of defending himself against most opponents, he would have had to choose between protecting himself and preserving the forest. It wouldn’t have been a hard decision in the end, but he was glad that he didn’t have to make the choice to begin with.
The moment of tension having passed, the fire-type observed the new winged arrival with interest. He never recalled seeing an all white Patamon before and it didn’t seem to be a new subtype, there wasn’t enough difference for that. It was just a curious defining trait that this particular digimon seemed to have, but it was significant enough to grab at attention for those who recognized the unnaturalness. It did seem to fit with the Patamon digivolution line better than the natural brown-topped variety, though.
“I couldn’t make much sense of my mission either, at first. Frankly, I still can’t, but my master has always known best in the past and he says it’s something only I can discover. Maybe even he doesn’t know what it is I am supposed to be looking for, but I’m supposed to know it when I find it."

"Well, OK, but it still sounds weird to me," Calcifer said.
"Who is this master you speak of I you don't mind me asking of course," Ami asked, reverting to human form, which took the Patamon by surprise.
"You're a human?!"
"Yeah. I can turn into a digimon but I'm usually a human," the blind girl said.

“I was rather surprised, myself,” Meramon said to the white-furred Patamon, not being caught by surprise this time like he had been when he first saw the transformation, “when she initially turned into a digimon.”
"Not at all." Meramon replied, turning his attention back to Ami so he could answer her question, his tone as warm as he was with fond memories, “My master is one of the most renowned trainers of the digital world, Piximon. He’s a grumpy fellow, but he grows on you with time and I wouldn’t be where I am today without his tutelage. I don’t understand all of his methods and ways at the moment, but he’s never led me to believe he was wrong about anything in the past so I always trust his judgment. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to leave when he commanded me to go on my journey, even though I still don’t know what I can find on my own to grow in my abilities that the master couldn’t handle with better results.”
