"Yeah, its always nice to make new friends, too," Ami said, patting Calcifer on the head.

“Come to think of it, I know that you had traveled here for training.” Meramon considered aloud, speaking to Ami before changing over to the Patamon with friendly curiosity, “However, what were you doing here, Calcifer? Is this the forest where you live?” Whether that query turned out to be the case or else the white-furred rookie digimon simply happened to fall into their laps out of the sky without realization or comprehension even from him, or any of a hundred different answers in between the two, it seemed too coincidental to be anything short of destiny.

"Oh you know, just hanging out," Calcifer said. "I travel around a bit. I've kinda been looking for someone though, an old rival of mine. He's probably a rookie, too. An Impmon, named Damion. Know of him?"

“An Impmon named Damion, hmm?” Meramon mulled over the Patamon’s question, trying to match the name with a face, “Oh, yes, I ran into an Impmon by that name only a few days ago. He was with a tamer of his own, I remember because it’s so rare to see humans around. Poor thing, too. He’s going to drive her batty if those two don’t learn to get along soon.”

"Hmph, sounds like the same old Damion I've known," the Patamon said. "We became rivals in our past lives, and when we were both Megas, we eventually destroyed each other."
"Why? What was the fight about?" Ami asked.
"Lots of things, but it mainly me being an angel, and him a demon. We were natural enemies."

“Maybe it’s none of my business,” Meramon commented, folding flaming arms across his chest in resolve, “but that seems to be a rather poor choice for fighting one another, each over the other’s data-type. We may all get our chances to start over at the Village of Beginnings, but it seems like a waste of a life to destroy each other from something as petty as rivalry.” Though at that moment, he gave a soft snort, a few stray sparks leaving his flame-engulfed nostrils as he did so, “However, I can see that Impmon becoming quite a demon once he gets some power behind that ego of his.”

"That ego of his is another reason I hated him," Calcifer said. "Maybe I was foolish to keep competing with him. We were evenly matched. But he always got to me one way or another."

“Well, let’s hope that in this next life of yours the tension doesn’t grow as strong between you two.” Meramon said in turn, “As a warrior, I can see the effectiveness of a rivalry in helping digimon test themselves and surpass their limitations, but I don’t see the effectiveness of all that effort just to destroy each other in the end and start over from the beginning.”

"Yeah, it does sound kind of pointless," Ami said.
"Yeah. Still, it didn't feel that way at the time. Buts its all in the past now. The chances of us running into each other again are very slim," the Patamon said.

“The chances are slim?” Meramon gave a chuckle, finding the Patamon’s words somewhat amusing, “Slim like finding your partner out of all the digimon in the entire digital world while taking a nature walk? Hopefully you’re right and you won’t have to worry about a repeat of your past life’s history, but in case you cross paths with him again you might want to retrain from starting things up where they left off last time. He has a lot of poor qualities from my meeting with him, but he seems to be covering some things up. Maybe spending some time with that human girl, if she survives, will do him some good.”

"I hope so. He needs all the 'good' he can get," Calcifer muttered.

“Well, if he’s going to get it from anyone, it might as well be that human. These partnerships seem to have some benefits to them for those involved.” Meramon said, before giving a blue-white stare Ami’s way, “Speaking of which, what do you plan to do now? If this Patamon was really all you were meant to find like he suggested than your journey is already over.” He gave an aggravated huff, as if considering some future prospect, “I hope my mission doesn’t end so anticlimactic and abrupt.”

"I don't know. I'll probably still keep coming here, I guess," Ami said. "Or who knows? Maybe a new journey will begin."

“Not much point in finding a Patamon if you’re not coming back to the digital world to see him, I suppose.” Meramon decided aloud, giving off a chuckle and more sparks, “Our journeys never really end. Once I find what I’m supposed to find by my master’s orders, I’m sure he’ll have some other task arranged for me to handle in my progression. He always does and its always worth it in the end.”
